Im Sharon, a qualified Advanced EMDR Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, DBT Therapist, Clinical Supervisor & Trainer. Im very much an out of the box therapist, working with the person rather than trying to fit them into a label or one-size-fits-all approach. I support individuals and couples with trauma, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, relationships and those times when you know something isnt right but dont know why. Warm, down-to-earth and non-judgemental.
About me and my practice
If youre looking for a down-to-earth therapist who will listen without judgement and actually see the person behind the labels, then youre in the right place.
Im Sharon, a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor, Advanced EMDR therapist and DBT therapist. Im calm, empathetic and approachable, and I understand that taking that first step towards therapy can feel daunting. My aim is to create a safe, confidential space where you can be completely yourself, talk openly and honestly, and feel genuinely heard and understood.
Im very much an out of the box therapist. I dont believe therapy should be a one-size-fits-all process, because people simply dont work that way. As a psychotherapeutic counsellor, Im trained to draw from a range of therapeutic approaches and tools, allowing me to adapt therapy to the person sitting in front of me rather than trying to make you fit into a particular model.
I work with a wide range of difficulties, including trauma, PTSD, CPTSD, anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, grief, suicidal thoughts, difficult life experiences and relationship difficulties. I also work with people who may not have a diagnosis or label but simply know that something doesnt feel right and want to understand themselves better.
As an EMDR therapist, I help people work through traumatic or distressing experiences that may still be affecting them in the present. As a DBT therapist, I can also help with understanding intense emotions, managing emotional regulation, developing coping strategies and improving relationships.
I also have an undiagnosed AuDHD brain myself, which has given me a personal appreciation of how differently people can experience the world, process information, manage emotions and navigate everyday life. While I never assume that my experience is the same as someone elses, it has strengthened my belief that understanding how an individuals brain works is far more important than simply focusing on a label.
Experience
Ive worked within social care settings, predominantly in mental health, for over 20 years. Throughout that time, Ive supported people from many different backgrounds and with a wide range of difficulties. This experience has given me a strong understanding of how complex life can be and, more importantly, how important it is to have someone who listens, understands and doesnt judge.
I continue to work as an affiliate counsellor and group supervisor for a local mental health charity, as well as working alongside a nationwide suicide awareness charity. These roles allow me to continue supporting people during some of the most difficult and vulnerable times in their lives, while also keeping my own knowledge and experience current.
Alongside my professional experience, I also bring my own lived life experience. I understand that sitting down with a complete stranger and talking about the things that are going on in your head can feel incredibly daunting. You may not even know where to start, and thats okay.
Taking that first step can be scary, but you dont have to take the whole journey on your own. My role is to meet you where you are, listen without judgement and work alongside you to help make sense of whats going on.
I genuinely believe that sometimes having someone who simply gets it can make all the difference.
